The Story
Curiosity, compounded.
One family, three decades, and a habit of asking what else a thing could become. Every house in this group began as a question nobody had been paid to ask.
THE BEGINNING
A consignment worth ₹3,500.
A young textile engineer, five months into a salaried job, decides to trade on his own account. The first consignment — raw materials for the paint industry — is worth ₹3,500. It is the entire business.
EARLY YEARS
Chemicals, then cloth, then Surat.
Trading chemicals for the textile industry teaches the trade; the move to Surat provides the ground. The family business becomes a habit of learning an industry from the inside, then improving it.
DIVERSIFYING
Lasers, diamonds — and a go-karting track.
A laser and diamond-cutting factory. An amusement park with a go-karting track. Unrelated on paper; identical underneath — each one entered because the question was interesting.
1998
A metallic spring, and an idea.
A coiled metal object, small enough to sit on a fingertip, prompts the question that changes everything: what if this could hold a human artery open? The family's medical-technology chapter begins with a piece of wire and a hunch.
2004
Envision Scientific.
Curiosity becomes a company. Research, cleanrooms, regulatory files — the slow apparatus required to put anything inside a human being.
2008
The drug that wouldn't stick.
Sirolimus was known to work — it simply would not stay on a balloon long enough to matter. Solving that produced the world's first sirolimus-coated balloon, and a technology the field said couldn't be built.
2016
Called a global gamechanger.
India's Marico Innovation Award, where the jury used exactly that phrase. Behind it: patents, trials, and a platform now carried in catheter labs far from Surat.
TODAY
Six houses, one temperament.
Medical technology in 75+ countries. Fashion labels with their own audiences. Snacks made honestly. Capital deployed patiently. The businesses look nothing alike — and are built exactly the same way.
From ₹3,500 to a technology the world argued about.
